Collection: District Marriage Registers of Upper Canada / Canada West / Ontario 1786-1870

Most District Registers survive and are reliably transcribed into these 24 books. During early settlement of Ontario, ministers other than Anglican and Roman Catholic, were required to send marriage returns to the District Clerk of the Peace who recorded them in the District Register. Many Anglicans and Catholics were married by nonconformist ministers.
