Irish and other immigrants to Canada (1845-1847) are recorded in this book.
An inquiry into the professional conduct of James Allison, Emigrant Agent at Montreal, resulted in a cache of otherwise unavailable information about specific immigrants to Canada. Among the evidence were several lists of immigrants that Allison had processed, mostly for 1846, but also covering some of 1845 and 1847.
Information from those lists was transcribed and published in this book.
Information about immigrants include:
- the name of the head of the family
- number of adults in the family (sometimes identified by sex)
- number of children in the family
- date processed at Montreal
- destination after arrival
- other remarks.
The records include a high percentage of Irish immigrants to Canada who were enroute to Upper Canada (present-day Ontario).
