This is the first volume of a two volume local history of Pakenham, Ontario that focuses on the early history of Pakenham, covering the settlement years 1823 to 1860. Volume Two continues the history from 1860 to 1900
The first volume begins with the indigenous tribes encountered by the early European explorers, and continues by describing the various groups of European immigrants, including the Irish settlers brought out by Honorable Peter Robinson, and the difficulties encountered by these early pioneers in a township deeply penetrated by the Canadian Shield and heavily wooded with pine.
