About the author

Ryan Taylor was a prominent Canadian genealogist whose interest began in the 1960s. He became active in the Ontario Genealogical Society in the 1980s, serving in leadership and editorial roles. He was also the founding editor of the Canadian Federation of Genealogical and Family History Societies' newsletter and wrote a genealogy column for The Record in Kitchener-Waterloo. His weekly column in the online magazine The Global Gazette was followed world-wide 1998-2006.   Ryan lectured widely across Canada and the U.S., focusing on British and Ontario genealogy. He was on the faculty of the National Institute of Genealogical Studies and founded the oral history program at the Kitchener library. He co-hosted the TV show Branching Out and was a panelist on Ancestors in the Attic. He passed away unexpectedly in 2006.
