This book includes transcriptions of the memorial stones that were standing during October 1985. The dates recorded on the stones range from 1820 (earliest birthdate recorded) to 1983 (latest death date recorded). The earliest burial recorded on a surviving memorial stone is 1887. This publication provides extra value to researchers because it contains transcriptions that were done decades ago.... some stones may no longer exist nor be easily readable today.

Background

Saint Augustine’s Anglican Church and cemetery is located on Concession 3, Lot 26, (modern address: 261 Richmond Rd), Prospect, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada

St. Augustine’s was built in 1854 by stone mason John May. The land on which the church and cemetery stand was donated to the church by William James who is interred in the cemetery. The building materials were provided by the parishioners. The early Irish Anglican parishioners met in a local school house prior to the erection of St. Augustine’s church. The church closed in 1967 with burials continuing until at least 1983 (according to memorial stones).

This publication provides extra value to researchers because it contains transcriptions that were done decades ago.... some stones may no longer exist nor be easily readable today. The transcribers published the results in 1986. There are no burials recorded in this book since 1983

The volunteers who recorded the memorial stones were: Darell Small, Ken Collins, Dolly Allen who were members of Ottawa Branch, Ontario Genealogical Society
